Brands Hatch beckons for next British GT round
PREVIEW - British GT Round 8
After Beechdean AMR’s competitive comeback was somewhat put on hold with an early race collision at Spa, the team is keen to get back down to business at Brands Hatch this weekend.
Held on the full Grand Prix circuit, the Brands Hatch race is the penultimate event in the 2018 British GT Championship season. The Kent circuit hosted the British Grand Prix back in the 60s, 70s and 80s and with famous corners such as Paddock Hill Bend and Dingle Dell it is often a good draw for spectators so the team wants to put on a good show.
“Having raced for many years, I’ve learnt that the ups and downs of racing are something you have to live with,” said team boss Andrew Howard. “After two bad races we look forward to going to the famous Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit and hope we can pull everything together and have a good run.
“Our first objective is to finish,” he continued. “And then of course to get back to performing at the front of the pack again.”
Howard’s team mate, Aston Martin Racing works driver Darren Turner, shares his determination for a good result this weekend.
“I’m hoping to get a bit more time behind the wheel at Brands,” said Turner, who didn’t get to race at all at Spa. “Andrew was really unlucky with the contact on the opening lap but these things happen. We made good progress with the race pace of the car at Spa so I hope we can demonstrate that this weekend.
“I think my last race at Brands Hatch was back in 2008 in touring cars so I’m looking forward to returning to race there again. We’ve got two races left so our focus needs to be on taking podium finishes and that is what we intend to do.”
Situated in a natural amphitheatre, the circuit offers some great viewing areas for spectators. The two-hour race gets underway on Sunday at 13:40hrs BST and will be broadcast live on the British GT Facebook page.
